CLUB HISTORY

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BREED IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA

The first recorded import of a Bernese Mountain Dog to Australia arrived in 1978. Within four years the breed had arrived in Western Australia. These early imports came from New Zealand and England.

In recent years dogs have been imported to Australia from the United Kingdom, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and America. These have widened the gene pool and enabled a substantial improvement in the breed.

THE BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG CLUB OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA (INC)

The growing group of Western Australian Bernese owners enjoyed meeting together with their dogs and were concerned for the future of the breed. They formed the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of WA in 1994 to protect and advance the breed in Western Australia.

Social activities are a regular feature of the Club's annual calendar. Members and their dogs have fun together, braving the ocean's chill before a breakfast BBQ and scouring the park for a bird feather on the infamous Dog Rally are just a couple of the annual challenges.

Anyone with an interest in the breed is welcome to come along and join in the fun.
